  Meet George Jetson...
Wow! I mean frickin' wow!. When I was in eighth grade, my school got their first ever computer: a Tandy "Trash-80" (that's TRS-80 for those too young to remember). Now kids in Arizona are getting laptops instead of books! I'm absolutely blown away. Seriously. Sure, online degree programs have become more common over the last few years, but this takes it to a whole new level. I wonder if this is partly a play by Apple to get back into the education market in a big way, which they absolutely owned years ago. Pretty interesting. Stay tuned...

A concept I thought would have taken off years ago!
Anyone with a school age child is often amazed at the amount of weight these kids are able to carry in their backpacks. If the trend were to continue, we'd evolve into the equivelent of human fork-lifts (not a pretty sight).
The concept of an electronic book held promise for sometime (I actually own one), as the replacement to a 100 pound stack of books. Just never took off.
I expect, over time, the form factor and screen technology will evolve to something usable and cost effective.

Thanks for the comment, anon. What do you think about a tablet-style PC as that ideal form factor? As I see all the time reading on my laptop, you need something that works in portrait mode more than landscape. The constant vertical scrolling really breaks up the flow when reading. What do ya think?
